The Rain - Love, Lies & Anxiety Attacks K7 (1991, Deception Records)

I just discovered this highly obscure band couple months ago from a friend asking about a video on youtube, and recently was lucky to find a copy of this cassette to purchase. The Rain were from Sydney, Australia and influenced by 80's post-punk/new wave bands such as The Comsat Angels, The Chameleons, The Sound, The Cure, Japan, etc., but their sound certainly contains some goth overtones too. Apparently this album was also released on CD on a different label (Shock Records) with a different track order according to the information on youtube. In the thank you credits, the Sydney-based goth band Lemon Avenue is mentioned... it would have been great if they would have released this record on their own Left As In Sinister label (probably wouldn't be quite as unknown). Believe this was their only release...

  2. where did you find the cassette? Very hard to find indeed. I was in this band in Sydney and now live in LA.

If you would like some backgound on The Rain, let me know and I'll fill you in. I do have a copy of the CD with me. The CD is the same track order as the Cassette, the difference was cause by the youtube uploader.

And yes we were heavily goth influenced... the bands outlined were ones that I could think of off the top of my head when the uploader contacted me. I should have included Clan of Xymos among others as well..

If you would like to hear a live unreleased track, go to my old myspace site and listen to the track 'Lighthouse'

    1. Was lucky enough to see you guys play at Griffith University, Brisbane, for a lunchtime concert in either 1992 or 1993. Got one of your cassettes that day and was so impressed a male friend and I went to the Storybridge Hotel that night to see you play again! Was sorry that it didn't continue but glad to still be able to play this album as it brings back great memories of that time for me. x

    2. I remember those gigs. I have photos from the Uni gig. There was another EP in the works. Probably 80% completed. Our sound was constantly changing, and the 2nd EP was representative of our live sound which was very different to our studio sound. Some of the best gigs we did were in Brisbane. Especially our last show at the Pineapple Hotel.

  3. Thanks for the info. I found the tape for sale on ebay from an Australian seller. The seller had lots of music (all genres) and books... so maybe runs/ran a shop at one time...
